Great success for the Breiale Mile 2024

Oslo, August 19, 2024 – DAB Ultra Skaters once again gathered 100 runners for a race party at Kongen Marina in Oslo - a fantastic day of full effort both on the course and at the club's after-run celebration. The race, known for its jovial atmosphere, good sportsmanship and camaraderie, attracted both elite athletes and exercisers.

This year, as last year, there was a wonderful diversity at the start; the 14.50 km (one mile) has a start and finish at Kongen Marina, and goes around Bygdøy and past Sollerud Beach. The winner of the men's class, Eirik Aabrekk, completed the whole race in 49.19, snatching the course record by over 30 seconds from last year's winner Ulrik Astrup.

In the women's class, it was Tiril Knudsen, a skier in the Norwegian elite who now competes with Konnerud IL, who took the top spot on the podium - and she beat her namesake Tiril Eckhoff. "Running in these surroundings, with a frame that is so down and cool, with a really cozy afterrun afterwards; it's simply amazing," said Eckhoff after the awards ceremony.

The race is the only one of its kind with a separate class for nose breathing (unisex), as one of the race's founders is the ring fox/gangster rapper/health freak Mr. Pimp Lotion. Lotion struggled with some pain this year; but there were a total of 10 participants who completed the race with tape over their mouths. The winner of the class, Karl Fremstad, finished just 3 minutes behind Aabrekk.

Part of something bigger

The race is part of the holy trinity of events that DAB Ultra Skaters conducts - the other two are the ultra race DAB100K, and the trail race Den Breiale Stien. The club's intention is to create positive experiences and fun for more people than those who usually compete in ordinary races. -We know that we bring people other than the "usual" events around", says race director Gaute Høyland. "For us, it's about the 100 who run today feeling welcome, their shoulders are low, there are smiles and fun, and there are burgers, good drinks and gangster rap at the finish line. And then we see that people have a great time".

Sondre Sundby also expressed his excitement after finishing, “This race was fun. The course is challenging, the people are nice, and next year I will be under the hour.” Sundby clocked in at 01:01:23.

The after-run was a success with burgers served, DJ Shrimp Shady and a mini-concert with legends Mr. Pimp Lotion and Oral Bee. In other words, it was a complete Saturday afternoon.

The Breiale Mile 2025 will be held in August next year, and will have two distances - both a Breiale mile and a half Breiale mile. This is to lower the threshold for further excitement and sports enjoyment.
